How To Destroy Limiting Beliefs In 4 Easy Steps

[ot-video type=”youtube” url=””]

Limiting beliefs are nothing more than toxic assumptions that we somehow take as truth. I say toxic, because they don’t serve us. Anything but serve us! They hold us back from living, being our true self and stepping towards our true potential.

Our limiting beliefs come from our past. It’s quite common for the bulk of these beliefs to be formed during childhood. From a time when we were just putting the first few pieces of the puzzle together. Without us knowing, we carry these beliefs forward into our adulthood. They become engraved into our subconscious, and then become a subconscious belief.

Usually, the most comment subconscious belief is centred around somehow not being good enough. With this subconscious belief, you become the ultimate perfectionist. Nothing you do will ever be good enough and you’ll constantly doubt yourself.

Destroying Limiting Beliefs. It’s a four step process.

Limiting beliefs don’t disappear overnight. It takes work to identify where the belief came from and developing strategies to counteract this belief and replace it with another. Identifying and destroying limiting beliefs is high level personal development, and can catapult you lightyears ahead in your own confidence and self worth. Seriously, it’s worth the effect and time investment and effort to do this – even if it feels painful!

#1. Identify

Want to uncover what limiting beliefs are holding you back? Easy. Write a list of limiting beliefs on paper. Keep writing until you’re out of ideas. Here are some popular ones that many people face:

  • I’m not good enough
  • I’m not smart enough
  • I’m not important
  • I’m too young
  • I’m too old
  • I’m too shy
  • Life is always hard
  • I’ll never make decent money
  • I’ll never find the perfect partner
  • I don’t deserve to be truly loved and appreciated
  • I’m a failure
  • I’m bad at my job
  • I’m a horrible friend
  • I’m not deserving
  • I’m not attractive

#2. Acknowledge

Once you have identified your list of limiting beliefs, it’s now time to acknowledge that they are only a belief. They aren’t real, and they certainly aren’t set in stone! When you acknowledge that they are indeed something we have constructed, we have invented in our mind – we open up the potential to reprogram and change our beliefs.

#3. Reprogram

T. Harv Eker — ‘Nothing has meaning except for the meaning you give it’.

These words from Harv are gold. Really, we live in a world that we have painted. What we see is merely our own perception, and judgement. We can never see the world for what it really is, we see it and create our own meaning. Therefore, all limiting beliefs are purely constraints we’ve given ourselves. When we remove them, we become powerful beyond measure.

Reprogramming our mind is not easy. That subconscious mind can be like a dirty dark basement. It’s going to take real effort to sort through and clean. There are many different ways to approach this, but meditation, visualisation and a process called Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) are extremely powerful. Or simply saying out loud – in front of the mirror.

#4. Destroy & Create Anew

Now that you’ve acknowledged your limiting belief, you’ve reprogrammed it – you can destroy and create anew. Picture that limiting belief GONE. It’s been shredded, burned, dropped off the edge of the earth. Whatever works best for you! Then picture how your life will change now that your limiting belief is gone. How will things change for the better? What new confidence will you have? What will you be able to achieve? If you feel any resistance come up, that’s okay. Again, the subconscious mind is a dirty old basement. You might keep finding stuff you didn’t realise was there. Keep it at. Keep acknowledging, reprogramming, destroying and creating anew. You’ll be a pro at this before too long.

And finally, I’m going to end my giving you a new belief. You’re awesome. You were born awesome and you can accomplish great things.
